Perhaps made as a doily, or “just for nice,” this unusual little white-work textile with text that reads: “Votes for Women,” is unique in my experience with Suffragette items. Ca 1910-20.
Mounting: The textile has been hand-stitched to its background, which is 100% cotton twill, black in color. The black fabric has been washed and treated for colorfastness. The ripple profile molding is modern. The gilded American molding dates to the period between 1870 and 1890. To this a modern, rippled profile molding, black with gold highlights, was added as a cap. The glazing is U.V. protective acrylic (Plexiglas).
Condition: Excellent. |
