PAINTING OF A PAIR OF DOVES, PENNSYLVANIA, 1880:
Pennsylvania gouache or oil painting on paper of two doves, probably to signify "lovebirds", sitting on a tree branch. Besides being attractive from a design standpoint, the paint has great depth, color, and a light craquelure that creates somewhat of a sparkle, not unlike a sandpaper painting, though more subtle. Circa 1880.
Mounting: The black-painted molding has great early surface and dates to the period between 1840 and 1860. The work has been hinged to 100% cotton rag mat. Spacers keep the parchment away from the glazing, which is U.V. protective glass.
Condition: Light foxing and oxidation throughout. |
