Description....:
46 STARS, OKLAHOMA STATEHOOD, 1907-1912:

46 star American national flag. The 46th state, Oklahoma, joined the Union on November 16th, 1907, during Teddy Roosevelt's presidency. Roosevelt had many friends in the Oklahoma Territory from his Rough Rider days, and pushed it through to statehood. The 46 star flag became official on July 4th, 1908 and remained so until July 3rd, 1912. Many 46 star flags were made earlier, however, in great anticipation of the future addition of the state, which had previously been appointed to Native Americans.

The canton and stripes of the flag are constructed of wool bunting that has been pieced by machine. The stars, which all point upward, are double appliqued, made of cotton, and machine-sewn with a zigzag stitch. Unlike many sewn flags, it has no formal header (sleeve). This flag was meant to be tacked to a staff or a wall, or to have fabric ties sewn to it so that it could be tied to a staff. It's unusual to find this circumstance during this period in a commercially-made flag, but I have seen it on numerous instances.

Mounting: The flag has not yet been mounted.

Condition: The flag is in fantastic condition. There is but the most minor mothing and the overall state is an 8-out-of-10 when compared to other examples of the period.
