Description....:
Hippie-Era Peace Flag: Probably made in the late 1960's or the early 1970's, this fantastic and rare, hippie-era peace flag is a stunning example. While I have seen other American national flags with a solid peace symbol in the canton, in place of stars, I can recall only two flags with stars configured to create the symbol (this flag and one other). The other flag in this format was found in a barn in Woodstock, NY and probably related to one of the early festivals. While this flag, likewise, has no specific known use, it's logical to assume it probably had a similar purpose. The flag is one-sided and was likely intended to be hung from a vehicle or building, or marched in a rally. Note in particular the wavy, metallic gold trim that siluoettes the pattern, and the yellow thread used to applique the stars, both of which lend great visual impact. The stripes and canton, as well as the stars, are made of nylon and machine-sewn. The peculiar use of the metallic trim and the lack of other known examples lead me to believe that this was probably a homemade flag, constructed by someone with excellent sewing skills. Condition: There is very minor bleeding in the stripes, but the flag is otherwise excellent.
