7-COLOR, CARRIAGE-PAINTED, AMERICAN PARCHEESI GAMEBOARD WITH A SPANISH BROWN / TOMATO RED GROUND AND FANCIFUL SCROLLWORK MEDALLIONS, circa 1875
Dimensions (inches): 21.25" x 21.25" x 1"
Description:
Parcheesi game board, painted in 7 colors on a wooden plank with applied, molded trim. The background is somewhere between Spanish brown and tomato red, on which a grid was painted in sky blue. The track includes black, blue, Kelly green, and a fluorescent bittersweet orange. The same colors are repeated in each corner block, where there are elaborate, yellow painted, scrollwork medallions. The home space is labeled in buff yellow, with old English letters, framed by a decorative border in the same color that complements the surrounding designs.

Likely this board was decorated by a carriage painter, who supplemented his/her work by supplying toy shops or dry goods stores. Whatever the case may be, the work here is exceptional.

Condition: There are minor pain chips and abrasions, and expected wear around the perimeter, but the overall condition is exceptional.
