SMALL-SCALE, PENNSYLVANIA LIFT-TOP GRAIN BIN IN MUSTARD PAINT, CA 1860-80
Dimensions (inches): 29.25" tall x 27" wide x 20" deep
Description:
SMALL-SCALE, PENNSYLVANIA LIFT-TOP GRAIN BIN IN MUSTARD PAINT, CA 1860-80:

Pennsylvania grain bin in early original mustard yellow paint with excellent surface. The construction is primarily of pine with two-plank sides and front, a single plank top with a molded lower edge, hinged to a narrow board, and a molded base. The joinery is of cut nails with vertical stanchions on the interior. The hinges are cast iron. The interior is open, without partitions.

As a practical matter, I use grain bins throughout my own house. They are great in the kitchen or pantry for bags of dog food, extra water and soda, shopping bags and other bulky products. They are great in living, bedrooms and hallways for extra quilts, pillows, and other linens. I keep them handy near sofas for this reason. They can also double as wood boxes and so are good near the hearth. The great small size of this one makes it practical for many places, as well as for service next to a bed, sofa or chair as a side table.

Condition: There is some minor expected wear, there are some age cracks in the pine planks, and a couple of added nails. The construction is exceptionally sturdy and there are no significant repairs or repaint.
