WINGED FRATERNAL HOURGLASS, MARBLE
TEMPUS FUGIT (TIME FLIES):
Tempus fugit (time flies), so do as much good as you can in the short amount of time given us. That is the moral lesson of this marble architectural element, found in the Altoona area of Pennsylvania (Blair County, adjacent to Centre County). Verbal provenance states that it was outdoors and adorned a local Odd Fellows hall. Circa 1860-1890. Excellent, weathered surface. An exceptionally detailed relief carving. |
